“Call me Mr. Vision...”
About Rust_vision
Guitars, Drum Machines, & Guillotines
RUST_VISION, the noise-soaked music of Rust MacCarthy, blends vitriolic industrial rock with lush synths and pulsing electronics. Rust's thematic musicality reflects his love of soundtracks and scores, weaving variations of ideas through cohesive musical storytelling. Lyrically, Rust isn't one to pull punches in his scathing critiques of societal norms and oppressive power structures, but also isn't afraid to put his struggles with personal demons on full display. RUST_VISION is at its best when it feels razor sharp and a little unsafe, as though anything could happen.
Background
After learning guitar and piano from influences ranging from Beethoven to Deftones to Andrew Lloyd Weber, Rust developed a passion for songwriting, playing in a touring nu metal band in his teens. Eager to learn more, he leaned into music theory and electronic composition as he entered college. After creating instrumental music for over a decade under various pseudonyms, he took to the stage and RUST_VISION was born.
While he initially envisioned more sultry vibes for his music, the trauma of the Covid pandemic changed all that. Rust found himself gravitating toward distorted guitars, screaming, and decimated drum machines. The result is his debut, GUILLOTINE, a series of 4 autobiographical EPs, released from 2022-2023, about Rust's drive to have a positive impact on the crumbling world he sees around him.
In 2023, Rust released a cyberpunk inspired instrumental album, entitled HEAVEN'S ARTIFICE.
2024 saw Rust hard at work in the studio, both for his forthcoming album, and for scoring work, providing music for the short film “Boys Don't Cry” for the 48 Hour Film Festival in Los Angeles.
In 2025, as RUST_VISION shows became more regular and, in 2026, Rust went into the studio with Contracult's Travis Sedg Bacon to finish recording his forthcoming album HYDRA'S RUIN.
